Namibia Herping Tour 2024

Route: Windhoek - Quivertree Forest - Orange River - Lüderitz and Aus - Sossusvlei - Swakopmund - Erongo Mountains - Windhoek

Introduction

Namibia has five biomes with different characteristics and habitats that provide suitable environments to approximately 250 reptilian species, of which 95 species are endemic. This tour is designed specifically to target as many species as possible. We will not only be seeing wonderful reptiles and breathtaking landscapes, but also many exciting mammals, birds, invertebrates, and plants. You can look forward to clean and comfortable accommodation, delicious, wholesome food and friendly people.

Nightwalks are a vital part of this tour to tick off as many nocturnal species as possible.

Key species:

Geckos: Many Pachydactylus species, Chondrodactylus species, Rhoptropus species, Ptenopus species

Lizards: A number of species from the Meroles, Agama, Pedioplanis, Thyphlacontias, Typhlosaurus, Trachylepis, Karusasaurus genus

Snakes: Several Elapids: Anchietas (Naja anchietae), Cape (Naja nivea), Black Spitting (Naja nigricincta woodi), and Zebra (Naja nigricincta nigricincta), Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis), six of the Bitis species, Tiger Snake (Telescopus semiannulatus), Anchieta's Dwarf Python (Python anchietae), several Psammophis species, Aspidelaps lubricus cowlesi and A. scutatus scutatus; Hemirhagerrhis viperinus, Pythonodipsas carinata.

Tortoises: Bushmanland Tent Tortoise, Nama Padloper, Leopard Tortoise

Chameleons: Namaqua and Flap-necked Chameleon

Our guides are all round naturalists and greatly enthusiastic about all fauna and flora. They are likely to point out mammals, birds, insects and other-worldly-looking plants as we go along. Here are some other highlights to look forward to:

Top Mammals: African Wild Cat, Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, Giraffe, Springbok, Meerkat, Honey Badger, Bat-eared Fox, Damara Ground Squirrels, Oryx, Damara Dik-dik, Steenbok, Duiker, Greater Kudu, and with some luck Cheetah and Caracal.

Endemic and Near-endemic bird species: Dune Lark, Gray's Lark, Damara Tern, Rüppels Korhaan, White-tailed Shrike, Rockrunner, Herero Chat, Bare-cheeked Babbler, Violet Woodhoopoe, Hartlaub's Spurfowl, Carp's Tit, Rüppell's Parrot, Monteiro's Hornbill.

The tour price is based on 7 clients. Should the group size be less than 7, we will charge a small group supplement.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The costs quoted are subject to unforeseen increases in tour related costs and may have to be adjusted.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we may be forced to change or alter the itinerary at short or no notice; please be aware that we will attempt to adhere as close to the original program as possible.

You must please take out, prior to confirming the booking, comprehensive travel-, medical-, evacuation-, cancellation-, curtailment- and default insurance for the duration of your trip. Due to the remote areas through which you may travel, it is vital that all guests are covered for emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances. We will not be held responsible for guest travelling without insurance.

The relevant cancellation policy applies should you fail to start your journey for any reason, including airline delays or missed connections. Please ensure you have adequate travel insurance for this purpose. You become liable for cancellation penalties immediately on confirmation of booking services.

Passports must be valid (usually for at least 6 months after date of travel) and still have at least 3 blank visa (not endorsement) pages.

20% non-refundable deposit is due on confirmation and the balance 45 days before departure.
